Dodgers Won't Use Harang As Reliever

Jun 7, 2014 10:20 PM

The Dodgers have eight starting pitchers for five slots, meaning they'll have to move some to the bullpen and perhaps trade one or two.

Don Mattingly made it clear on Wednesday that Los Angeles won't convert Harang into a reliever.

"Aaron Harang doesn't seem like the kind of guy that pitches out of the pen," Mattingly said. "To me he's more of a guy that paints. He keeps you in the game. He's just not that guy that's going in and overpower you."

That could mean that Harang will be dangled in a trade.

Soriano May Not Be Fit For Yankees' Outfield

Sep 16, 2014 10:34 PM

The broken forearm suffered by Curtis Granderson over the weekend doesn't mean Alfonso Soriano is headed back to the Yankees.

Granderson is expected to return in May and New York would have to absorb most of the remaining two years of Soriano's contract.

Soriano also has a no-trade clause in his deal.

Soriano Could Be Option For Yankees

Oct 1, 2014 2:58 PM

Alfonso Soriano loved playing for the Yankees and told Buster Olney last summer that they are one of the teams that he would accept a trade to.

New York might be in the market for an outfielder after Curtis Granderson's weekend forearm injury. He will miss 10 weeks, keeping him out of the lineup until May.

Tigers To Fill Need For Right-Handed Outfielder From Within

Apr 26, 2014 12:26 AM

The Tigers are still looking for a right-handed outfielder to platoon with Andy Dirks in left field, but they are expected to do so internally.

"We like our team the way it is," assistant general manager Al Avila said. "We think internally, as we sit today, that's the best option."

It appears as though Detroit has seven candidates for the job -- Brennan Boesch, Jeff Kobernus, Quintin Berry, Don Kelly, Danny Worth, Avisail Garcia and Nick Castellanos.

"From what we've got internally, we can make it work," Avila said. "But, you have to let the games start and see how your team comes together."

Rockies Interested In Jeff Niemann

Jul 5, 2014 9:39 AM

The Rockies continue to search for a starting pitcher and have talked to the Rays about Jeff Niemann, according to a source.

Tampa Bay has interest in Colorado left-hander Christian Friedrich, but he has not pitched this spring because of back and neck stiffness.

Nothing is imminent because Friedrich might not throw off a mound until next week.

Orioles Closely Tracking Dylan Bundy, Kevin Gausman

Sep 25, 2014 4:10 PM

It has been speculated that Dylan Buddy and Kevin Gausman could reach the Major Leagues with the Orioles this season.

The prospects will be closely monitored this spring to ensure they will be options to the help the team down the stretch.

"[Bundy will] have a longer rope early," Buck Showalter said. "He's excited about that. Gausman will be similar. When you look at the innings he pitched at LSU and what he did in instructional league, he's got a little different plan.

"They're going to have a minicamp that allows them to do whatever we allow them to do in August, September and October for the Major League club if they're in the mix -- provided they don't make the club [out of camp]."
